2011: The Winner

ELL & NIKKI WITH "RUNNING SCARED" FOR AZERBAIJAN

This song didn't seem like a favorite during the run up to the contest. I had focused on completely different songs, so this was a surprise winner. The contemporary pop ballad had enough going for it to win enough votes to narrowly beat out it's competition. Unlike in previous years when the contest was decided almost halfway through, Ell and Nikki had to wait till almost the very end to find out they'd won.The story behind Nikki is pretty impressive, she was living in London when she just decided she wanted to represent her home country in Eurovision. She auditioned for the Azerbaijani National Selection process, eventually got paired with Ell and bam, she had won the contest for her country for the first time. That says a lot about the power of positive thinking!
